In a significant crackdown on fraudulent activities, the Bidhannagar cyber crime police conducted a raid on a fake call center located in Newtown, leading to the apprehension of eight individuals, among them was a woman. During the operation, crucial documents and equipment were seized. According to law enforcement sources, the fraudsters involved contacting foreign nationals via Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, all while masquerading as employees of Virgin Media Microsoft. These deceptive tactics were used to lure victims into a trap, promising them technical assistance in exchange for money.
The police's decisive action transpired after receiving critical intelligence from undisclosed sources, leading to the operation at a fake call center known as Mono Boutique (OPC) Technology Pvt Ltd. Among those apprehended were Sheikh Yasir Uddin, Rakesh Sharma, and Ehtesham Ali. The seized assets included 15 computers, 10 smartphones, one automobile, five debit cards, and a substantial cache of documents.
The accused are scheduled to appear in the Bidhannagar court today, where the police will request their custody for further investigation.In addition to the arrests, the Bidhannagar cyber crime police are diligently pursuing the identification and capture of the alleged mastermind behind this fraudulent operation, underscoring their commitment to combatting such illicit activities.
