NIA busts human trafficking ring, arrests 2 men from North 24 Pgs

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has successfully dismantled a cross-border human trafficking ring with the arrest of two individuals from the Bangaon area of North 24 Parganas. The accused, identified as Amal Krishna Mondal and Amir Ali Sheikh, were apprehended by NIA detectives on charges of their involvement in this illicit network. The arrests are a significant breakthrough in an ongoing investigation that began following a case in Odisha.

According to sources, the investigation was triggered a few months ago after Odisha police rescued a minor girl in Bhubaneswar. The girl, who had allegedly been trafficked across the border from Bangladesh, provided crucial information about the network's operations. Her journey, as she revealed, took her first to Kolkata and then to Cuttack, where she was eventually rescued. Her statement provided the first critical leads that exposed the organized racket.

Acting on the information from the minor, the NIA's investigation team started to unravel the intricacies of the human trafficking ring. Their probe led them to a couple, suspected to be residents of Bangladesh, who are believed to be at the center of the operation. This initial discovery prompted the detectives to dig deeper into the network's reach and its financial transactions.

A detailed examination of the financial dealings of the network members revealed the names of the two accused, Amal Krishna Mondal, a resident of Gaighata, and Amir Ali Sheikh, a resident of Bangaon. It was found that Amir Ali Sheikh was allegedly involved in foreign exchange transactions, playing a key role in the financial logistics of the trafficking ring. Amal Krishna Mondal, on the other hand, is accused of arranging safe accommodation for the trafficked individuals after they were brought across the border illegally.

An NIA team from Bhubaneswar conducted a coordinated raid on Saturday, leading to the apprehension of both individuals. Following their arrest, they were produced before the Bankshal court in Kolkata. The NIA successfully secured a transit remand, allowing them to take the accused back to Bhubaneswar for further interrogation and investigation.

During the raid, NIA detectives seized several incriminating documents from the arrested individuals, including mobile phones and passports. The seized items and the financial transaction records have provided the agency with valuable intelligence regarding the network's activities in Bangladesh. The investigation is continuing based on these new leads, with the agency aiming to identify and arrest other members of the racket.
