NIA files supplementary charge sheet in Ekbalpore violence case

On Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a supplementary chargesheet in the Ekbalpur communal violence case before a special NIA court in Kolkata. The case pertains to a clash between two communities in Kolkata's Ekbalpur police station area. The supplementary charge sheet was filed against Mohammad Zeeshan Akbar, also known as Zeeshan, under sections 120B, 147, 149, 152, 332, 352, and 436 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In January, the NIA filed a charge sheet against 14 accused. The agency stated, "During the investigation, it was found that Mohammad Zeeshan Akbar, along with other co-accused, had conspired to attack the houses and shops of the Hindu community at Gali No. 8, Bhukailash." They had organized an unlawful assembly and used country bombs, petrol bombs, wooden sticks, bricks, stones, and rods to carry out the attack.

The NIA also alleged that the mob disrupted the power supply in the area and prevented police personnel from entering Gali No.8 to control the riots. The charge sheet states that the mob also attacked police personnel, injuring one of them.

It is worth noting that in the second week of October, a violent clash between two communities occurred in the Iqbalpur area. The clash happened on the day of the Lakshmi Puja festival in Bengal. However, members of the minority community vandalized homes, offices, and vehicles belonging to the majority community.
