A devastating fire broke out in a shop adjacent to platform number 1 of Birati station, rapidly spreading to nearby businesses. Three bookstores located close to the station were engulfed, prompting immediate concern among commuters and shopkeepers in the area.
The intensity of the blaze led to a precautionary power supply shutdown around the station premises. Two fire engines were deployed and managed to bring the fire under control after sustained efforts, preventing further spread to adjoining structures. Train operations were affected as services on the down line of the Sealdah-Bongaon section were suspended following the incident. The disruption added to the chaos at the station, with passengers facing delays and uncertainty.
The incident has reignited memories of a massive fire that broke out on December 30 at the Yadubabu market near Birati station, where nearly 200 shops were gutted. With another fire erupting in the same area, traders and local residents are now gripped by fear and panic.
