Nitish Kumar confirms Rajya Sabha bid amid JD(U) protests, writes emotional note

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has confirmed his intention to contest the Rajya Sabha election, thanking the people of the state for their decades-long support in an emotional message ahead of filing his nomination. The veteran leader said the trust placed in him by voters had enabled him to serve Bihar with dedication for more than two decades.

In a post in Hindi on X, Kumar expressed gratitude to the people of Bihar, saying their continued confidence had given strength to his political journey and contributed to the state’s development and dignity. He said the support of the people had allowed his government to work consistently toward improving governance and advancing the state’s progress.

Explaining his decision, the Janata Dal (United) chief said he had long wished to serve in all legislative forums during his parliamentary career. He noted that since the beginning of his political journey, he had hoped to become a member of both Houses of the Bihar Legislature as well as both Houses of Parliament.

Kumar also reassured supporters that his decision would not weaken his commitment to the state. He said his relationship with the people of Bihar would continue in the future and emphasised that the goal of building a developed Bihar together would remain unchanged.

Barely four months after being sworn in for a record tenth term as Bihar Chief Minister, Kumar’s move to seek a Rajya Sabha seat has triggered intense speculation over who might eventually succeed him in the state’s top post. According to party sources, he is expected to remain Chief Minister at least until the Rajya Sabha election scheduled for March 16.
