Nitish Kumar switches sides for 'kursi', BJP alliance not good for Bihar: Mallikarjun Kharge

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday launched a strong attack on Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, accusing him of switching political sides merely to cling to power. He described the JD(U)-BJP alliance in Bihar as "opportunistic" and urged voters to remove the NDA government in the upcoming assembly elections.

Speaking at the Congress’ ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ rally in Buxar, Kharge said that Nitish Kumar had aligned himself with an ideology responsible for Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination. He warned that such an alliance would not serve the interests of Bihar’s people and accused Kumar of prioritizing his political ambitions over the state’s welfare.

Kharge also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning the fate of the ₹1.25 lakh crore special financial package announced for Bihar in 2015. "People of Bihar must ask what happened to Modi Ji’s promise. Today, Modi Ji is running a factory of lies," he said, accusing the BJP of failing to fulfill its commitments.

Criticizing the recently concluded Parliament session, Kharge alleged that the government focused more on divisive issues like the Wakf (Amendment) Bill rather than on development. He claimed that the BJP uses religious polarization to divert attention from its failures, rather than working for the people's welfare.

Reacting to the recent charge sheet filed against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case, Kharge said the move was politically motivated. He asserted that the Congress leadership would not be intimidated and recalled the sacrifices made by Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi for the country.

Kharge further alleged that the BJP and RSS are working against the interests of the poor, women, and weaker sections of society. He claimed that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was part of a larger conspiracy to deepen communal divisions. Kharge concluded by calling on voters to support the Mahagathbandhan and vote out the NDA in the upcoming elections.
