BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
In a major political development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to take oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha on April 10, with indications that a new government in Bihar may be formed shortly after April 14. He is scheduled to leave for Delhi on April 9, marking a crucial phase in the state’s political transition.
The development comes after Kumar was elected to the Upper House on March 16 and subsequently resigned from the Bihar Legislative Council on March 30. His move to the Rajya Sabha is being seen as a significant shift in his long political career, as he prepares to step away from active leadership in the state and pave the way for a new CM in Bihar.
Amid these changes, the Bihar Home Department has confirmed that Kumar will continue to receive ‘Z Plus’ category security even after stepping down as Chief Minister. The high-level security cover, which includes multiple layers of protection and around-the-clock surveillance, will remain in place upon his assumption of office as a Rajya Sabha member, following a review under the Bihar Special Security Act, 2000.
Sources indicate that Kumar is likely to resign as Chief Minister shortly after taking oath and returning from Delhi, triggering the process of government formation in the state. While no successor has been officially named yet, the transition is expected to be closely watched, especially given the evolving political dynamics within the ruling alliance.
Kumar’s elevation to the Rajya Sabha also marks his first entry into the Upper House, completing his representation across all major legislative platforms in his decades-long career. His departure from the CM’s post is expected to reshape Bihar’s political landscape, with the next leadership facing the challenge of maintaining stability and continuity in governance.
