In a significant recovery drive, the New Jalpaiguri Government Railway Police recovered 25 mobile phones reported stolen or snatched from railway stations and trains, and returned them to their rightful owners on Sunday. The handover was completed after due identification and legal formalities.
Officials said the recoveries were made in connection with multiple cases of theft and snatching reported over recent weeks. The mobile phones were traced and seized through sustained efforts by the GRP team, bringing relief to affected passengers.
Alongside the handover, the GRP conducted a special awareness campaign at the station, urging travellers to remain vigilant about their mobile phones, wallets, bags and other valuables during train journeys. Passengers were advised to immediately report suspicious activity and contact the GRP helpline in case of any loss.
Senior officials including Kunwar Bhushan Singh, SOG OC Atreye Ganguly, NJP IC Pashang Sherpa and ASI Saiful Alam were present at the programme. Police noted that incidents of theft and snatching tend to rise during peak crowd hours and appealed to passengers to exercise extra caution.
