No new AMRAAM missiles to Pakistan, says US amid rumors

The US Embassy in India has issued an official clarification firmly denying recent media reports that suggested a new sale of Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) to Pakistan.

The clarification followed an announcement made by the US Department of War on September 30. According to the US Embassy’s press release, the contract modification pertains solely to "sustainment and spares" for existing defense systems already operated by Pakistan.

This means the contract is strictly for the maintenance, repair, and provision of spare parts for the current inventory of air-to-air missiles and related equipment previously supplied to Pakistan. The AMRAAM, or AIM-120, is a highly advanced, all-weather, beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile widely used by the US and allied air forces, including Pakistan, which uses them on its F-16 fighter jets.
