Indian Railways is set to revolutionize long-distance travel with the upcoming launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train. This new service is specifically designed to eliminate the long-standing "VIP culture" within the rail system. There will be no emergency or VIP quotas, and even senior railway officials will not be allowed to travel using traditional passes. The ticketing system is built on transparency, offering only confirmed berths to ensure a seamless experience for every passenger without the hassle of RAC or long waiting lists.

The first of these modern sleeper trains is scheduled to run between Guwahati and Howrah, strengthening the link between the Northeast and Eastern India. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that trials and certifications are complete, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to flag off the inaugural service this January. The train will consist of 16 modern coaches, including eleven AC three-tier, four AC two-tier, and one first-class AC coach.

Beyond speed and efficiency, the train aims to offer a premium cultural experience. Passengers will be provided with upgraded bed linen, including blanket covers, which is a significant step up from standard railway offerings. To further showcase Indian heritage, the staff’s uniforms will reflect traditional civilization, and the catering will focus on authentic Indian flavors. This shift marks a deliberate move away from colonial-era systems, focusing on equality and comfort for all.
