The Noapara to Airport metro service is expected to begin by May 2025, as confirmed in a recent high-level meeting. The meeting was attended by key officials, including Sunil Kumar Yadav, Deputy Chief Engineer of Metro Railway, and Shamik Bhattacharya, BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP. Bhattacharya expressed hope that the metro service will be operational by May and visited the construction site to assess progress.
The metro service will significantly improve connectivity between Noapara and the airport, providing faster and more efficient travel. However, the extension of the metro line to Barasat, which is intended to pass through Michael Nagar, has been delayed due to land acquisition issues. This extension is crucial for expanding the metro's reach to the northern parts of the city.
Despite the delays, Bhattacharya remained optimistic about the extension’s future, stating that the work will begin soon. The Barasat extension will be fully underground, helping to minimize land-related challenges. Once completed, it will further enhance connectivity for commuters traveling between Barasat and the airport.
