Nomination of Krishnanagar North's TMC candidate cancelled by EC; party fields new name

The nomination of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) official candidate, Abhinav Bhattacharya, was cancelled from Krishnanagar North constituency by the Election Commission due to multiple discrepancies and errors found in his affidavit and supporting documents. 

After this, the mystery surrounding Somnath Dutta’s last-minute nomination on Thursday has finally been solved. Dutta, the General Secretary of the TMC’s North Organisational District, had dramatically appeared at the Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office just five minutes before the deadline to file his papers. While his entry as an "independent" or "dummy" candidate initially sparked intense speculation, it is now clear that the party leadership anticipated potential issues with Bhattacharya’s paperwork and prepared Dutta as a contingency.

Following the formal rejection of Bhattacharya's candidature today, Somnath Dutta has been officially elevated as the Trinamool Congress candidate for Krishnanagar North. Sources suggest that the errors in Bhattacharya's affidavit were significant enough to warrant immediate disqualification under election guidelines. Dutta, who is a well-known organisational face in the district, will now lead the party's campaign against the opposition in a seat that has historically seen high-voltage electoral battles.
