A café named ‘Aranyer Kule’, allegedly built on Matla riverbank land in Moukhali under Canning in South 24 Parganas, has come under administrative scrutiny after allegations of illegal construction. The Canning Sub-Divisional administration has issued a notice to Imran Molla, son of former Trinamool Congress MLA Saokat Molla, and scheduled a hearing on June 18 at the SDO office.
According to officials, Imran Molla has been directed to appear before the Canning Sub-Divisional Officer with all relevant documents, including land ownership and construction permissions. The administration has stated that all records will be examined during the hearing to determine the legality of the café structure and its use of riverbank land.
Officials have further stated that if valid documents are not produced during the hearing, steps may be taken for demolition of the structure. Police from Joynagar police station and administrative personnel had earlier visited the site and pasted the notice on the café premises as part of the enforcement process.
The café has been accused of being constructed on riverine land along the Matla River, with allegations that mangrove areas near Moukhali bridge, connecting Canning 1 and Canning 2 blocks, were cleared for its construction. The establishment has reportedly drawn attention due to its location and scale, with claims of large investment involved.
The issue has also been linked to earlier developments involving Saokat Molla, who was arrested by the NIA in connection with the Bhangar bomb blast case. Authorities have additionally noted that several similar structures along the Matla riverbank are under review, with notices issued for multiple cafés and constructions in the area.
