The Lok Sabha Secretariat on Sunday asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to respond to the BJP's breach of privilege notice over remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. BJP leader Nishikant Dubey and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi filed a complaint alleging breach of privilege by Rahul Gandhi.
BJP leaders alleged that the Congress MP raised "false, contemptuous, unparliamentary and misleading facts" against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the debate on the Motion of Thanks for the President's speech in the Lok Sabha on February 7. BJP president Nishikant Dubey had a breach of privilege notice against Rahul Gandhi. At the same time, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi wrote a letter to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, saying that under Article 380, some unparliamentary and dishonest allegations against Rahul Gandhi should be removed from the proceedings of the House.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat has asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to submit his reply by February 15.
On Tuesday, while participating in the debate on the Motion of Thanks for the President's address, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the fortunes of businessman Gautam Adani had skyrocketed after the BJP came to power in 2014. He also made several other allegations, including parts of his speech that were later redacted. The Congress leader's remarks drew a sharp response from the finance ministries, with Law Minister Kiren Rijiju asking him not to make "wild allegations" and submit evidence for his claims.
