Uttarakhand police on Wednesday arrested a suspect in the alleged rape and murder of a 33-year-old nurse who went missing on July 30 in Rudrapur of Udham Singh Nagar district. The deceased was a resident of Gadarpur’s Islamnagar and worked as a nurse at a private hospital in Nainital. She lived with her 11-year-old daughter in Bilaspur Colony.
The victim’s sister had filed a missing person’s report on July 31 at Rudrapur police station after which police began a probe into the case. Over a week later, her body was found in an empty plot in Uttar Pradesh’s Dibdiba area. The body was sent for post-mortem.

The accused, who was arrested from Rajasthan’s Jodhpur, is a laborer from Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly. According to reports, the accused Dharmendra took the nurse to the bushes where he first raped her, then strangled her to death and fled after robbing her jewelry.
