Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
A bright Class 10 girl preparing for her Madhyamik board exams ended her life in Sonarpur, South 24 Parganas, after her neighbour allegedly used artificial intelligence to turn her normal photos into obscene deepfakes and spread them across social media. The teenager, who lived with her maternal uncle’s family, was found hanging in her room. Despite being rushed to hospital, doctors declared her dead. Her broken mother broke down, saying her daughter was excited about giving Madhyamik next year but constant harassment crushed her spirit for the last few days.
Sonarpur Police have launched a case of abetment to suicide and are probing the creation and circulation of the obscene images. Family members point fingers at a married neighbour who, had been stalking and troubling the girl for months. According to them, he collected her innocent pictures from social media, used AI tools to morph them into explicit and obscene content to humiliate her. The victim girl stopped eating, locked herself in her room and refused to speak to anyone.
Relatives claims even the accused man’s family members joined in the taunting. Unable to bear the shame, she took the extreme step just days before her pre-board exams. Sonarpur police have seized the girl’s phone and are working with cyber experts to trace the origin of the deepfake images. Angry locals gathered outside the police station demanding immediate arrest and the strictest punishment. This heartbreaking incident has once again exposed how easily AI tools can be weaponised to destroy young lives, especially girls, and sparked urgent calls for stronger laws against deepfake and online harassment.
