OC under scanner for SI of Bidhannagar Police suspended after Rs 15 lakhs bribe video goes viral

A major embarrassment hit Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate when a viral video surfaced online showing Sub-Inspector Abdul Hamid Molla allegedly accepting bribe money inside Bidhannagar Electronics Complex police station. The footage, which quickly went viral, forced top officials to act fast: Abdul has been suspended with immediate effect and a special investigation team has been formed. Even the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the station is now under the scanner for possible lapses or involvement.

The case dates back to 2022 when Rs 90 lakhs loan fraud complaint was lodged at the same police station. During the probe, police called Pinaki Ranjan Mondal – the middleman who used to take commission for arranging fake loans – first as a witness. The very next day, instead of recording his statement properly, officers allegedly threatened to frame him in the fraud case unless he paid Rs 15 lakhs.

The viral video reportedly captures the moment the bribe amount was handed over through the “mohri” (agent) system commonly used to avoid direct contact. As per reports, this swift suspension and inquiry are meant to protect the police force’s image and send a strong message against corruption. The investigation will now dig deeper with the station OC under lens. This incident is a stark reminder which proves how could such practices were going on inside police station and whether senior officers turned a blind eye. More action, including possible arrests, is expected once the probe report is submitted.
