A government official was allegedly beaten up with sticks and rods by a group of 15-20 intermediate students after a scuffle with an examinee at an examination center in Banka district over the issue of an admit card, police said on Tuesday.
The injured officer has been identified as Amarpur Social Worker Pankaj Kumar Jaiswal, who has been deputed by the High School Magistrate Dr. Harihar Chaudhary in Barahat block to ensure peaceful and fair examinations.
The incident took place on Monday around 8:00 pm when a teacher and school staff informed the municipality that some students had gathered outside the school gate. As soon as Jaiswal left the examination centre, the students attacked him and beat him up mercilessly. The school staff quickly transported him to the primary health center. After giving him first aid, the doctors sent him to Bhagalpur for better treatment. He is undergoing treatment at Mayaganj Hospital in Bhagalpur.
According to doctors, he suffered serious injuries to his eyes and head. The victim told the media that he recognized one student with whom he had a minor scuffle over the admit card. "I was delegated as a static magistrate at the examination center in Barahat. After the end of the second intermediate examination on Monday, the school staff informed me that some examinees were waiting outside the center. When I asked them to leave, they attacked iron rods and sticks. I was just doing my job,” he said.
Barahat SHO Satish Kumar said a complaint has been registered against students of Jaipur High School, Katoria, including one named accused, under sections 308 (attempt to commit murder), 323 (voluntarily causing bodily harm), 341 (wrongful restraint of liberty) and 353. (use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duties) IPC.
"All the accused are on the run, raids are underway to nab the accused. The reason for the attack is not yet known," he added.
