"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
A section of an old residential building collapsed in the Kankurgachi area of Kolkata early Saturday morning, injuring six people, including two children and a woman said to be their mother. The collapse occurred at dawn, and eyewitnesses stated that a portion of the structure gave way suddenly, impacting nearby residents. The incident caused chaos in the locality, and some individuals from an adjacent building were also affected by the falling debris.
Following the collapse, local residents immediately began rescue operations and alerted the police and disaster management authorities. All six injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials reached the site and are expected to inspect the structural stability of nearby buildings. No deaths have been reported so far.
