Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A major accident was narrowly avoided on Sunday morning in the B-Block area under Lake Town police station when an old gulmohar tree suddenly uprooted and collapsed onto vehicles parked along the roadside near the Milan Sangha Club. The incident occurred around 9:05 am and led to panic among local residents.
The falling tree severely damaged a private car, a bus and an ambulance that were parked at the spot. Fortunately, no one was inside the vehicles at the time of the incident, preventing any loss of life or injuries. Eyewitnesses said the tree had been leaning dangerously to one side for a long time before it finally gave way with a loud crash. Soon after receiving information, Lake Town police and fire brigade personnel reached the area. Firefighters used cutters to remove the fallen branches and clear the road, while police managed the situation to restore normal traffic movement in the locality.
Local residents expressed strong resentment against the administration, alleging that repeated complaints about the condition of old and weakened trees had gone unaddressed. They demanded immediate identification, pruning or removal of dangerous trees in the area ahead of the monsoon to prevent similar incidents.
