An overnight encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district resulted in the killing of one terrorist, while security forces continue search operations in the area. The gunfight broke out in the Arhama region following specific intelligence inputs about suspicious movement, prompting a coordinated response from the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The joint operation began on Tuesday night as part of a cordon and search mission aimed at flushing out militants believed to be hiding in the area. According to officials, troops noticed suspicious activity during the search, and upon being challenged, the suspected terrorists opened fire, triggering an exchange of gunfire.
Security forces responded with what was described as a calibrated and tactical operation, reorganising the cordon amid intermittent firing. During the exchange, one terrorist was neutralised. However, officials indicated that the situation remains active, with further search efforts underway to ensure the area is cleared of any remaining threats.
The operation is being led by coordinated units, including the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, highlighting continued vigilance in the region amid ongoing security challenges. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity or affiliation of the slain militant.
Officials confirmed that the anti-terror operation is still in progress, with forces maintaining a strong presence in the area to prevent any possible escape or regrouping by other militants.
