Reconstruction of crime scene in Kasba as probe intensifies in Kolkata college student rape case
Congress MP and senior leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Saturday raised serious concerns over the law and order situation in West Bengal following the alleged gangrape of a female student at a law college hostel in Kolkata. He claimed that administrative control in the state has weakened and that the situation is moving towards anarchy.
Chowdhury said, “This incident shows that the law and order in Bengal is worsening day by day.” He stated that the environment in the state has become such that brutal crimes like gangrape are occurring within college premises. The victim, a student of a law college, was allegedly raped inside the hostel by multiple accused.
He alleged that the accused are linked to the ruling Trinamool Congress and that they are committing crimes under the cover of political protection. “Such audacity and impunity is seen only in those who enjoy the direct or indirect support of those in power,” he said.
The Congress leader further alleged that the state government is offering protection to such criminals, which is leading to repeated crimes across the state. He claimed that the actions of the state government are damaging the social fabric and that the law is being misused to shield certain elements.
The incident has triggered political tension and growing public anger across the state. Various social organisations and opposition parties are demanding swift and strict action against the accused. Protests and demands for justice have been reported from different parts of West Bengal.
