As the Adani row continues to disrupt proceedings in the Parliament, the Congress on Tuesday said the Opposition wants the two Houses to function but the central government is “afraid” and isn’t even allowing it to raise the demand for a joint parliamentary committe probe.
The opposition party also alleged that the government is making “no effort” to break the logjam in Parliament.
Adani Group shares took a beating on the bourses after US-based activist short-seller Hindenburg Research leveled a litany of allegations, including fraudulent transactions and share price manipulation, against the Gautam Adani-led group, which it dismissed as lies.
The opposition is demanding an inquiry by a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) or a Supreme Court-supervised inquiry into the allegations. "Today, the opposition parties will meet at 10am to decide on the day's strategy." No effort by the government to break the logjam caused by its refusal to allow the opposition to raise its demand for JPC in Adani MahaMegaScam linked to PM,” Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh tweeted.
The opposition wants Parliament to function but "Modi Sarkar is afraid", he claimed.
On Monday, the Congress staged a nationwide protest and halted proceedings in both houses of Parliament along with other opposition parties for the third day in a row, demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on the issue.
