As flight delays continued to disrupt operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, a senior IT ministry official clarified that the disruption was not caused by a cyber attack but by a technical glitch during an Air Traffic Control (ATC) software upgrade.
The official said the automatic updation system for flight plans had stopped functioning due to the glitch. “There is supposed to be an automatic updation of flight plans, which stopped functioning. It is not a cyber attack,” the official confirmed. The civil aviation ministry also assured that all relevant systems were being restored and the situation was under control.
Delhi International Airport Limited stated that the Automatic Message Switching System, which supports ATC flight planning, faced a technical issue, resulting in large-scale flight delays. As per flight-tracking data, 513 flights were delayed on Thursday, affecting India’s busiest airport that handles over 1,500 flights daily. Authorities said the problem was being resolved on priority, and passengers were advised to stay in touch with airlines for updates.
