The announcement of awarding Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor, to former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani has triggered a sharp response from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief, Asaduddin Owaisi. Owaisi took to social media platform 'X' to express his opinion, stating, "Bharat Ratna is appropriate for Lal Krishna Advani.
The graves of Indians who lost their lives in violence are nothing but stairs." This remark comes as a critique of Advani's association with the Ram Temple movement, particularly the Rath Yatra in 1990, which is considered a pivotal moment in Indian politics.
In response to the announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed joy, congratulating Advani and highlighting his significant role in India's development. PM Modi underscored Advani's standing as one of the country's most respected politicians.
Meanwhile, Advani, in accepting the Bharat Ratna, expressed humility and gratitude, viewing the honor not only as a personal accolade but also as recognition for the ideals and principles he has dedicated his life to. The former Deputy Prime Minister is renowned for his key role in the Rath Yatra of 1990, which played a crucial part in the movement for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
