Trump asks Apple CEO not to manufacture in India, says 'they can take care of themselves'
In a shocking twist linked to the Pahalgam terror attack, Sohini Roy, wife of the deceased Bitan Adhikari, has come under the scanner for possessing two different birth certificates. Investigations by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation revealed major discrepancies in the documents she submitted to various government offices.
According to officials, Sohini managed to procure two birth certificates — one from Maryland Nursing Home on CIT Road and another from Elite Nursing Home on Manoharpukur Road. The second certificate was allegedly issued based on a questionable court order (No. 1215/2016) from Alipore Court. However, municipality investigators found that the applicants for the said court order were not related to Sohini’s family.
The situation worsened when court records showed the applications were filed by individuals named Mohammad Iftikhar Khan and Vijay Seth, unrelated to Sohini. Lawyers pointed out that according to Indian law, such applications must come from the applicant’s parents, but neither of Sohini’s parents filed the request. In fact, her father, Shantiranjan Roy, passed away in Narayanganj, Bangladesh in 2012, and her mother Bharati Roy is reportedly absconding.
Further digging revealed contradictions in Sohini’s official records. While one certificate mentioned her birth on March 3, 1989, at Maryland Nursing Home, the other certificate stated March 5, 1989, at Elite Nursing Home. Adding to the confusion, documents from Narayanganj City Corporation suggest her actual birthplace was in Dhaka, not Kolkata.
The NIA, which is already probing the Pahalgam terror incident, visited Kolkata on Saturday. Officers first spoke with families of other victims before reaching Sohini’s residence in Patuli. There, locals informed investigators about her alleged past involving passport fraud, canceled voter ID cards, and her forced return from Florida after her visa was revoked.
Despite the serious allegations raised by neighbors, NIA officials have remained tight-lipped. Meanwhile, Kolkata Municipality has launched a high-level inquiry to determine the full extent of document falsification linked to Sohini, even as national agencies continue to deepen their investigation.
