Pakistan expels Iran ambassador and recalls its own after cross-border air strike

In response to a cross-border air strike by Iran, Pakistan has expelled the Iranian ambassador and recalled its own envoy, escalating tensions between the two neighbors.

The strike targeted bases of the militant group Jaish al-Adl in Balochistan province, leading to a diplomatic crisis. Pakistan's foreign ministry condemned the attack as an "illegal and unacceptable act" and reserved the right to respond. The move comes amid a regional conflict surge, with Pakistan becoming the second of Iran's neighbors to complain of an attack on its soil within 24 hours.

Mushahid Hussain Sayed, chairman of the Pakistani Senate’s defense committee, said, “We have to seek talks to eliminate the root causes of the issue, whether ungoverned spaces in Iran which are used against Pakistan or ungoverned spaces in Pakistan which may be used by terrorists against Iran."
