Sodepur flyover to shut every weekend from July 19 for urgent structural repairs
The Pakistan hockey team has received clearance to compete in the upcoming Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in Rajgir, Bihar, from August 27 to September 7, 2025. A source within the Sports Ministry confirmed on Thursday that all necessary approvals have been granted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and the Sports Ministry, paving the way for Pakistan's participation despite prevailing political tensions between the two nations.
This decision reflects a willingness by Indian authorities to distinguish between multilateral sporting events and direct bilateral ties. A ministry source clarified, "We are not against any team competing in India in a multi-national competition. But bilateral is different," indicating a policy that allows participation in international tournaments hosted on Indian soil. Pakistan's involvement in the Asia Cup had been uncertain due to the strained political relationship, but officials have now removed any restrictions.
The Asia Cup promises high-stakes encounters, with India and Pakistan expected to face each other during the tournament. Their paths could also cross again at the Junior World Cup later in the year, which is also slated to be hosted in India. Furthermore, if Pakistan confirms its return to the FIH Pro League, additional fixtures between the two arch-rivals could materialize ahead of major events like the Asian Games and the World Cup, contingent on both nations' qualification. The confirmation of Pakistan's participation ensures the continuation of these much-anticipated contests within the framework of global hockey.
