Pakistan nominates Donald Trump for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize over India-Pakistan crisis mediation

The Government of Pakistan has formally nominated United States President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his diplomatic involvement during the 2025 India-Pakistan crisis. In an official statement posted on its verified account, Islamabad credited Trump with playing a "decisive diplomatic role" in de-escalating the conflict and facilitating a ceasefire between the two countries.

According to the statement, Pakistan described Trump's role as a “pivotal leadership effort” that helped prevent what it called a catastrophic war between two nuclear-armed states. It said his “back-channel diplomacy” during rising hostilities contributed to halting military action following the events after the Pagalgam terrorist attack.

President Trump, when asked on Friday about being considered for the Nobel Peace Prize, said, “I should have gotten it four or five times.” He mentioned his involvement in South Asia, as well as a treaty he claims will be signed on Monday to end hostilities between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. He added, “They won't give me a Nobel Peace Prize because they only give it to liberals.”

The Indian government has categorically denied any external involvement in the ceasefire process. Indian authorities have stated that talks were held at Islamabad’s request and did not involve any third party. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a phone call with President Trump earlier this week, reaffirmed that no other nation was involved in the discussions.

Pakistan also referenced Trump’s earlier statements offering to mediate the Kashmir dispute and called it a “sincere commitment to durable peace in South Asia.” The statement concluded by urging a resolution of the Kashmir issue “in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.” Pakistan further described India’s initial actions in the crisis as “unprovoked aggression” and said its military response, named Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, was “measured and precise.”
