Kohli-Salt silenced Eden Gardens as RCB beats KKR by 7 wickets in IPL opener
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will feature a prize pool of $6.9 million, with the tournament winner set to receive $2.24 million (₹20.8 crore). Despite a 53% increase from the last edition in 2017, this amount remains lower than the IPL contracts of top Indian cricketers like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Venkatesh Iyer.
If a team wins the tournament unbeaten, including group-stage victories, it could earn up to ₹22 crore, factoring in prize money, participation fees, and match winnings. However, this still pales in comparison to Pant’s record ₹27 crore IPL deal with Lucknow Super Giants and Iyer’s ₹26.75 crore contract with Punjab Kings.
The tournament, marking the return of global cricket to Pakistan for the first time since 1996, will be held across Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. The event will follow an eight-team format, split into two groups of four, with the top two teams advancing to the semi-finals.
Runners-up in the Champions Trophy will receive $1.12 million (₹10.4 crore), while the two semi-finalists will take home $560,000 (₹5.2 crore) each. Even the bottom-ranked teams will receive a minimum of $125,000 (₹1.1 crore) for participation. Each group-stage victory is worth an additional $34,000 (₹31 lakh).
ICC Chair Jay Shah emphasized the tournament’s significance, stating, “The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 represents a pivotal moment for cricket, reviving a tournament that highlights the pinnacle of ODI talent. Beyond financial incentives, it ignites fierce competition and captivates fans worldwide.”
