In preparation for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games, organisers have unveiled a surprising initiative: providing more than 200,000 condoms to athletes residing in the Olympic village. Set to kick off on July 26th, Paris aims to foster a sense of normalcy post-COVID-19 while acknowledging the prevalent hook-up culture among athletes.
Laurent Dalard, a coordinator of health-related services for the event, disclosed plans to distribute 200,000 condoms for men and 20,000 for women. With approximately 1050 athletes expected to attend, organisers believe this allocation will suffice. Dalard emphasized their readiness to adapt to demand, stating, "We don't know how many people are likely to use them and obviously we'll adapt to the requirements if needed."
