Partha Chatterjee, former education minister of West Bengal, who was arrested in a high-profile corruption case involving teacher appointments, has reportedly sustained injuries while being incarcerated at Presidency Central Jail.
He was taken to SSKM hospital after bleeding from an injury on his lip. According to officials at the jail, the incident occurred last Saturday when Partha was taking a walk on the lawn adjacent to his cell. While returning to his cell, he fell in front of cell number seven, injuring his lip and hand.
Partha had been receiving treatment at the jail, but on Tuesday evening, he was transferred to SSKM hospital. However, he is now said to be in stable condition.
Partha was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in July last year when he was serving as the General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress and the Minister of State for Industries, IT, and Councils. He has been in custody ever since.
