Parade begins at Red Road to celebrate India's 76th Republic Day
An incident occurred on the Amritsar-Katihar Express on Wednesday involving the assault of a passenger by a ticket examiner (TTE) and a coach attendant. The passenger, Sheikh Tazuddin, a truck driver traveling from Siwan, Bihar, to New Delhi, allegedly became violent after drinking alcohol with two coach attendants, Vikram Chauhan and Sonu Mahato, in the M2 coach.
According to railway officials, Tazuddin misbehaved with female passengers while under the influence of alcohol. When TTE Rajesh Kumar intervened, Tazuddin reportedly attacked him and Chauhan. As the situation escalated, the TTE and Chauhan physically restrained Tazuddin, with viral videos showing them kicking, stomping, and verbally abusing him. In one video, the TTE is seen pinning the passenger to the floor while Chauhan allegedly flogged him with a belt near the coach gate.
Co-traveller Dheeraj Yadav reported to the police that Chauhan had taken money from Tazuddin to buy alcohol, and after drinking together, Tazuddin started misbehaving. “The coach attendant made pegs on the seat, and after drinking, the passenger misbehaved and slapped the TTE,” Yadav told authorities.
Railway police intervened after receiving information about the incident, deboarding Tazuddin at Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh. Tazuddin was escorted off the train, while TTE Rajesh Kumar was taken into custody. Chauhan fled the scene and was not found on the train. A case has been registered against Tazuddin, the TTE, and the two attendants.
In response to the incident, the Railways suspended TTE Rajesh Kumar and asked him to report to the divisional headquarters in Lucknow. The two coach attendants, Vikram Chauhan and Sonu Mahato, were also suspended. The Railways assured that strict action would be taken and that statements from passengers on board the M2 coach were being collected for further investigation. Several passengers have filed complaints against Tazuddin for his behavior during the journey, and authorities are working to ensure accountability for all involved.
