Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
A fire broke out at the underground Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Terminal 2 Metro Station in Mumbai’s Andheri East area on Wednesday evening, prompting authorities to evacuate passengers from the station premises. Officials said no injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred at around 4.10 pm and briefly affected metro services on the underground Metro Aqua Line 3 corridor between Aarey JVLR and Cuffe Parade.
According to civic officials, the fire originated in the technical room of the metro station. Information regarding the incident was received by the Mumbai fire brigade at approximately 4.13 pm, following which emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the location. Fire officials stated that three fire engines and two jumbo tankers were deployed for firefighting operations at the underground station.
Authorities said smoke spread across sections of the underground premises during the incident, requiring firefighters to use breathing apparatus while carrying out rescue and containment operations. The fire was brought under control by around 4.30 pm. Officials confirmed that all passengers present at the station were evacuated safely and no injuries or casualties were reported.
Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited, which operates the Metro Aqua Line services, described the incident as a “minor smoke incident” and stated that the situation was promptly handled by the on-site response team. As a precautionary measure, trains temporarily did not halt at the airport station while services between Sahar Road and Aarey stations remained briefly affected.
The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited stated that all prescribed safety protocols were followed during the incident and normal metro operations were later restored. Officials added that the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined and further investigation into the incident is underway.
