Pathaan writer responds to criticism, ‘when you watch Jurassic Park, you don’t analyse accuracy'

Siddharth Anand's Pathaan turned out to be the biggest box office success in recent times. The film is on its way to break several box office records. While the audience showed love and support for Shah Rukh Khan and the cast, several critics and reviews pointed out that the action scenes and set pieces were illogical and a bit hard to digest. Pathaan is an action film with some big action moments choreographed between Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika and John Abraham.

Sridhar Raghavan, who has written Pathaan, addresses the criticism around the logical reasoning of these scenes. He says, “People who are watching it, will be thinking ‘what the hell?’ But look, it is a comic book zone, by that I mean commando comics, fandom comic where there is a certain suspension of disbelief where we are going to have fun. We are not writing this thinking of how realistic it is. There is space of that cinema too, but this is flamboyant and outrageous. This is comic book on steroids. You are supposed to go and have a blast and have fun.”

He explained, “Films like Mission Impossible and others are supposed to be taken with a pinch of salt and lot of entertainment. I love adventure films, when I go and watch Jurrasic Park, I am not sitting and analysing is this the right era for things like that to exist. I am going there to enjoy and watch dinosaurs. This is a comic book celebration of fictional spies, larger than life spies. This is not a realistic depiction of the espionage world at all. This is a hyper glammed, cool comic book version of that world. Some people might like it, some may not, everyone has their choice. I grew up on a certain kind of cinema, I want enjoyment, flamboyant, fun. We were trying to recreate that. When you are writing a film like this, you are also trying to impress the kid in you. I felt sheer joy when I saw people celebrating Pathaan.”

Pathaan is the first entry in YRF's espionage universe and the production house is set to expand this universe with several projects and films with several spin-offs likely.
