A fresh controversy has emerged at RG Kar Hospital after a patient reportedly died while walking without a stretcher following treatment at the trauma care centre. The family of the deceased has alleged serious mismanagement at the hospital, claiming that the elderly patient was forced to walk despite his critical condition. The incident has once again raised concerns over the functioning of the hospital’s emergency facilities.
The deceased has been identified as Biswajit Samanta, who was rushed to the hospital around 3:30 AM on Sunday after suddenly experiencing chest pain. His son and wife accompanied him to the trauma care unit, where doctors reportedly administered an injection. According to family members, Samanta’s nose began bleeding soon after the injection, after which doctors prescribed drops that were administered, and his condition appeared to stabilize temporarily. The situation reportedly worsened when the patient needed to use the toilet. Family members allege that no stretcher was available at that time and that doctors asked them to take him to a toilet located on the second floor outside the trauma care unit. The patient was allegedly forced to walk to the facility despite his condition. Soon after coming out of the toilet, Samanta reportedly collapsed, became unconscious, and died shortly afterward.
The family has blamed the hospital authorities for negligence, stating that arrangements could have been made for the patient near the bed instead of forcing him to walk. They also alleged that they have not been contacted by hospital authorities following the incident. The episode has sparked renewed questions about infrastructure and emergency management at the government-run hospital.
