A fatal incident occurred at a private nursing home on Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road in Behala, where 32-year-old Akshay Mondal, from Noddakhali, South 24 Parganas, passed away after being admitted for abdominal issues. According to reports, Mondal was initially brought to a government hospital by ambulance, but the driver recommended the nursing home, citing good medical care. Upon arrival, Mondal was admitted to the nursing home and attended by a doctor. His condition was assessed, and treatment was initiated.
Family members allege that after the initial visit by the doctor on Friday night, no medical staff attended to Mondal on Saturday. The family further claims that while a doctor finally arrived at 5 PM on Saturday, by that time Mondal had already died. They express that had proper care been provided earlier, the outcome may have been different. The incident has sparked anger among the family and local residents, leading to protests outside the nursing home.
Police were called to the scene to manage the escalating tension. A statement from the nursing home has not been released, but the incident is under investigation by local authorities. The health department, which had previously raised concerns over the nursing home's medical practices during the COVID pandemic, is expected to review the situation. Investigators will examine whether medical protocols were followed and whether negligence played a role in the patient’s death.
