In an unexpected turn of events, Bhojpuri film industry star Pawan Singh has declined the Bharatiya Janata Party's nomination to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Asansol seat in West Bengal. Singh, whose name was included in the list of 195 candidates released by the BJP just a day ago, cited personal reasons for his decision, expressing gratitude to the party leadership for their trust.
He wrote in his message, 'I express my heartfelt gratitude to the top leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The party trusted me and declared me as the candidate from Asansol, but due to some reason I will not be able to contest from Asansol'.
Trinamool Congress general secretary and Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee has taken a dig at Pawan Singh's refusal to contest the elections. Reposting Pawan Singh's post on social media platform X, he wrote, "This is the indomitable spirit and strength of the people of West Bengal."
