No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A tragic road accident on National Highway 16 in Howrah’s Liluah claimed the life of a pedestrian on Friday. The victim, identified as Devendra Prasad, a resident of Haldhar Para in Howrah, was attempting to cross the busy highway when he was struck by a speeding motorcycle. The impact was so severe that the pedestrian died on the spot before any medical help could arrive.
The collision was high-intensity, causing both the motorcyclist and the pillion rider to lose balance and crash onto the metal road. Local residents and bystanders rushed to the scene to assist the victims. While the pedestrian could not be saved, the two bike riders were rescued from the wreckage in critical condition and immediately transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Cops from the Liluah police station arrived shortly after the incident to manage the traffic buildup on NH16 and recovered the body for a post-mortem examination. Witnesses reported that the motorcycle was traveling at an excessive speed, making it impossible for the rider to brake in time when the pedestrian stepped onto the road. The mangled bike has been seized by the authorities for further investigation.
