People guilty of parading women naked in Manipur won’t be spared: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that an event in Manipur in which women were paraded naked had embarrassed 140 million Indians and vowed that the culprits would not be spared justice.

He told reporters at the Parliament complex before the start of the monsoon session that “Today, as I stand at this temple of democracy, my heart is full of pain and anger. Opposition parties have criticized him for staying silent on ethnic violence in the BJP-ruled northeastern state.

"I want to assure my countrymen that no culprit will be spared." The law will act with its full force and firmness... What happened to these daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven,” he said.

Tensions have risen in the hills of Manipur after a May 4 video surfaced on Wednesday showing two women from one of the warring factions being paraded naked by several men from the opposite side.
