Night blaze behind Sealdah station burns down several food stalls
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his Mumbai residence on Thursday, January 16. The actor, 54, was stabbed multiple times by an intruder who entered his Bandra apartment in the early hours of the morning. Khan sustained several injuries, with a 2.5-inch part of the knife lodged in his spine. Medical staff at Lilavati Hospital successfully removed the knife fragment during surgery. Niraj Uttamani, Chief Operating Officer at the hospital, stated that if the stab wound had been 2 mm deeper, the injury could have been life-threatening. Despite the severity of the injuries, Khan reportedly walked into the hospital on his own while soaked in blood.
The attack occurred at approximately 2:30 AM, when CCTV footage captured an intruder entering the building using the stairs to access the apartment. The attacker spent around 53 minutes inside the actor's residence, where he allegedly stabbed Khan multiple times, causing injuries to his neck, back, and hand. The intruder reportedly fled the scene carrying a different bag from the one he had entered with.
Maharashtra Minister of State Yogesh Kadam confirmed that the motive behind the attack appeared to be theft, and no underworld gang was involved. The police had initially detained a suspect who resembled the attacker, as captured by CCTV, but later clarified that the individual was not connected to the case. As of now, no one has been detained, and the police are continuing their investigation into the identity of the attacker and the details surrounding the incident.
Following the attack, Saif Ali Khan was admitted to the ICU and underwent surgery to treat his wounds. The portion of the knife lodged in his spine was successfully removed, and he has since been moved out of the ICU. Doctors have advised him to remain on bed rest for several days to allow the injuries to heal, particularly the wounds on his back, which will require more time for recovery. The actor’s health is stable, and he is expected to be discharged from the hospital within the next two days, provided his recovery progresses without complications.
The police are continuing to gather evidence and piece together the details of the attack. They are reviewing CCTV footage, interviewing witnesses, and examining the stolen items to understand the full extent of the crime. Authorities have not disclosed the specific items that were taken, but they are focusing on the timing and access points used by the attacker to enter the apartment. Investigators are also working to determine whether the attacker had any prior knowledge of the household’s movements. The police have not released any further details on potential suspects or the ongoing investigation.
