A major water pipeline burst occurred on Wednesday morning near Harkali Colony close to Dum Dum station during ongoing repair work beneath Dum Dum Road. Water erupted forcefully onto the street, flooding the area and disrupting traffic as officegoers began their daily commute. The road was submerged quickly, leading to a severe traffic jam in the area.
Local shops and roadside vegetable stalls were affected, with many reporting water and mud entering their premises. A vegetable seller said, “We weren’t warned. The repair work started suddenly and within minutes, water flooded everything.” Residents and shopkeepers alleged that no prior notice was issued before the repair activity began.
Kolkata Municipal Corporation workers reached the site and initiated emergency repairs. Sandbags were deployed to control the water flow, and technical staff began fixing the damaged pipeline. Traffic diversions were put in place while repair work continued. The situation remained tense, with civic teams working to restore normalcy.
