Disruption in metro services between Dumdum and Dakshineswar; normal services resume after 2 hours
In response to the ongoing crisis of ethnic violence in Manipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his solidarity with the affected people, assuring them that the nation stands united to restore peace. PM Modi's remarks came as he addressed the Manipur crisis and its repercussions.
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to criticize the opposition for what he referred to as playing politics with the situation in Manipur. As he began discussing the matter, opposition MPs walked out, drawing PM Modi's criticism.
"The central government is committed to ensuring the strictest punishment for those responsible for the violence in Manipur. To the people of Manipur - mothers, sisters, daughters - know that the entire nation stands with you. Together, we will overcome this challenge and restore peace. I promise the citizens of Manipur that the state will continue its journey towards development," PM Modi affirmed today while speaking at Lok Sabha.
Pointing out the historical context, PM Modi highlighted the challenges faced by the northeast under extended Congress rule. He specifically referred to Manipur's sacrifice for the nation and its lack of due recognition. "Manipur endured a period when insurgency controlled nearly everything. Whose government was in power then?" he inquired. The MPs of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) promptly responded, "Congress, Congress."
