PM Modi becomes most followed world leader on Instagram | Know where other leaders stand

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the first world leader and politician to cross 100 million followers on Instagram, emerging as the most followed global leader on the platform. His follower count now stands at more than double that of US President Donald Trump, who holds the second position with 43.2 million followers.

Among other major global leaders, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has 15 million followers, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has 14.4 million, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has 11.6 million and Argentine President Javier Milei has 6.4 million followers. Notably, the combined follower base of these leaders remains lower than Modi’s individual total.

Modi joined Instagram in 2014, and over the past decade his account has evolved into one of the most engaged political profiles globally. The platform is used to share updates on official engagements, international visits, public outreach initiatives and cultural moments, helping him connect with a wide and diverse audience.

Within India, Modi maintains a significant lead over other political leaders on the platform. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has around 16 million followers, while Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has approximately 12.6 million followers, highlighting the Prime Minister’s dominant digital presence domestically.

According to recent approval ratings cited in public data reports, Modi also ranks among the most popular global leaders, with a high approval percentage compared to several international counterparts. The Instagram milestone underscores the growing importance of digital platforms in political communication and direct public engagement.
