In a virtual ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the inaugural installment of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) to one lakh beneficiaries. The scheme, with a budget of approximately ₹24,000 crore, focuses on 11 critical interventions aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
During the address, Modi emphasized the government's decade-long commitment to the welfare of the poor, highlighting a fivefold increase in the budget for Scheduled Tribes' welfare and a 2.5 times growth in scholarships for tribal students over the past ten years.
The PM-JANMAN scheme, operating through nine ministries, aims to provide basic facilities such as safe housing, clean drinking water, sanitation, education, health, nutrition, electricity, road and telecom connectivity, and sustainable livelihood opportunities to PVTGs.
Modi expressed gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu, India's first tribal woman head of state, for her guidance on the scheme. Interacting with beneficiaries, he acknowledged the positive changes in their lives resulting from government initiatives for amenities like cooking gas connections, electricity, piped water, and housing.
