Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit West Bengal on May 29 to hold a public meeting and an administrative meeting at Alipurduar. This will be his first visit to the state since Operation Sindoor. The administrative meeting will focus on the strategic importance of the 22-kilometer ‘Chicken’s Neck’ corridor, which connects the northeastern states with the rest of India. Alipurduar is located near this corridor.
Following the meetings, PM Modi will leave for Kanpur. BJP sources confirmed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to arrive at Dum Dum airport in Kolkata on the night of May 31. On June 1, Shah will conduct a series of meetings with senior state BJP leaders and office bearers. These include a closed-door meeting with top leaders, a party meeting at Science City attended by mondol and district presidents, as well as interactions with BJP MPs and MLAs from West Bengal.
Shah’s visit is expected to focus on election preparations ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. Party insiders have indicated that the meetings will address organizational strategies and campaign plans. Sources said that demographic changes in Bengal and recent incidents of violence in Murshidabad are likely to be discussed as part of the election agenda.
On May 26, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has called a meeting, which is expected to include discussions on the upcoming visits by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. The BJP leadership in Alipurduar and Kolkata has reportedly made arrangements for both leaders’ events and meetings.
According to sources, Amit Shah is likely to return to Delhi on the night of June 1 or early on June 2 after concluding his day-long program in Kolkata. No official announcement has yet been made about Shah’s schedule, but party sources have confirmed the general itinerary.
