Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold a public meeting in Panihati on April 23 in support of BJP candidate Abhaya’s mother, in a politically significant move ahead of the first phase of West Bengal Assembly elections. The rally is expected to focus on women-centric issues and comes amid heightened campaigning across the state.
Ahead of this, the Prime Minister is campaigning in multiple districts including Bankura, Purulia, Jhargram and Bishnupur. Senior BJP leaders are also participating in rallies, with the party sharpening its attack on the Trinamool Congress over the Women’s Reservation Bill and law and order concerns.
The Panihati rally coincides with voting in 152 constituencies on April 23, making it a crucial political event. The candidature of Abhaya’s mother, linked to a high-profile case that sparked public outrage, is being positioned as a key campaign narrative, with the BJP aiming to consolidate support among women voters.
