Disruption in metro services between Dumdum and Dakshineswar; normal services resume after 2 hours
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to participate in the 28th United Nations Conference of Parties (COP), scheduled to commence on November 30 in Dubai. During his prior visit to the United Arab Emirates in July, PM Modi expressed commitment to ensuring the success of COP-28 for all nations. Despite the ongoing state election season in India, sources confirm Modi's attendance, emphasizing the significance of the global climate conference in addressing challenges posed by climate change and outlining the responsibilities of nations in combating it.
PM Modi is expected to be present on December 1, coinciding with statements from heads of state worldwide. Notably, this visit follows Modi's commitment at the 26th COP summit in Glasgow, where India pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070. Alongside attending COP-28, Modi will virtually host the Voice of Global Summit and the G-20 summit.
Climate change commitments and the imperative for concrete actions on climate finance by developed nations are anticipated focal points. The G-20's recent commitments, including tripling renewable energy usage by 2030, will likely resonate, as will discussions on the Global Stocktake and the Loss and Damages Fund, aimed at compensating nations already experiencing the adverse effects of climate change. India's G-20 presidency and the New Delhi agreement underscore the nation's dedication to addressing climate concerns on a global scale.
