Prime Minister Narendra Modi embraced the cultural diversity of India by donning a South Indian lungi during Pongal celebrations at the residence of Minister of State L Murugan in Delhi. A video capturing the Prime Minister participating in the rituals surfaced on the internet, showcasing him in a white lungi paired with a black coat and draped in a shawl on his left shoulder. Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Lt Governor of Puducherry, and Telangana Governor, was also present at the festive occasion.
In the video, Prime Minister Modi is observed engaging in Pongal festivities, entering the residence of MoS L Murugan and actively participating in the celebrations. The footage captures him placing offerings in a container over a flame for cooking, symbolizing gratitude to the Sun and Mother Nature for agricultural abundance. Notably, he garlands a cow and feeds it as part of the ritual.
The atmosphere is filled with onlookers capturing the Prime Minister's involvement in the celebrations, with Modi extending heartfelt Pongal wishes to the public. Pongal, a harvest festival celebrated by the Tamil community, spans four days, coinciding with the auspicious Thai month, usually observed on the 14th or 15th of January.
