Police announces 2 lakh bounty on shooter who fired at cops in Bengal

A police vehicle carrying two accused from Islampur court to Raiganj jail came under gunfire attack in the Panjipara area of Goalpokhar, Uttar Dinajpur, on Wednesday afternoon. The attack resulted in injuries to two police officers, Neelkanth Sarkar and Deven Vaishya, who were on duty at the time. The shooting occurred while the vehicle was traveling through Panjipara, with eyewitnesses confirming that multiple gunshots were fired at the van. The officers were immediately rushed to Islampur Hospital for treatment, though their current medical condition has not been disclosed.

The two accused had attended a court session earlier in the day at the Islampur court and were being escorted back to Raiganj jail when the attack took place. In response to the attack, the West Bengal Police announced a reward of ₹2 lakh for any information leading to the identification and arrest of the shooter.
